Compress vs. Optimise a PDF: What Each Actually Saves

    Compressing a PDF reduces file size by re-encoding images and removing redundant data. Optimising goes further: it restructures the internal layout, drops metadata, and applies targeted settings like downsampling to 150 DPI (Recommended preset). On GekiPDF, both happen together when you use the compress tool—no separate steps needed.

    What can you actually save? A typical scanned PDF at 300 DPI can shrink by up to 95%. For example, a 32 MB, 16-page scan usually lands near 1.5 MB in about a second. The text layer stays intact, so you can still search and copy words. But if you need maximum quality for print, choose Light (~200 DPI) instead of Extreme (~96-120 DPI).
